In what was the largest early season hurricane on record (roughly 120 years of data), Hurricane Beryl barreled its way through the Gulf/Caribbean hitting numerous island nations as it worked its way west to Mexico, then northwest to Texas. It served all in the affected areas and those far away from the eye that, yes, its hurricane season, time to get prepared now Debby hits!
Both Hurricanes made landfall as CAT 1 hurricanes. Beryl was a CAT 5 then dissipated to a CAT 1 by the time it hit the US mainland, but still caused damage and as many as 2M were without power.
Then Debby made landfall increasing from a tropical storm to a CAT 1 before losing power as she hit land. Debby landed along the Big Bend Coast of Florida on Monday morning causing as many as four deaths.
The town of Steinhatchee, Florida saw 80 mph winds, before Debby lost some power being downgraded to a tropical storm.
Officials reported flooding and a storm surge as Debby moved in. The storm’s winds toppled trees and utility poles, knocking power out to more than 250,000 homes and businesses throughout northern Florida
Debby will continue moving slowly across northern Florida dropping as much as 10+ inches of rain. Surrounding states like South Carolina & Georgia could see as much as 20 inches, according to Michael Brennan, director of the National Hurricane Center, in a YouTube stream.
